However, many don't leaving some DAW users unable to access the fun. Here is the point of this article. To use these (FREE) synths, you'll need a way to play them. I use the FXpansion VST to AU wrapper. Its 100 bucks that will open up a whole treasure trove of new options.

This was a free open source application called VSTAU, that claimed to be an Audio Unit adapter which theoretically allowed VST plug-ins to be used in AU hosts. This application created wrappers for your VST plug-ins in that will make them available as Audio Units in programs like Logic Pro and GarageBand.
